Psalm 149:1-4
“Praise the Lord!
Sing to the Lord a new song,
and His praise in the assembly of the saints.
Let Israel rejoice in their Maker;
let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.
Let them praise His name with the dance;
let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp.
For the Lord takes pleasure in His people;
he will beautify the humble with salvation.”
As you may know, we are starting a worship dance team here at Sesser
First Christian as a way of expressing the artistry and creativity of
God. Dance is an area of worship that is mentioned many times in the Old
Testament. It is specifically commanded in Psalm 149 that we “praise His
name with the dance”. In the days of David, there was a sacred worship
dance that they did for the Lord. Ecclesiastes says there is a “time to
dance and a time to mourn”. Dancing in the Bible was a natural
expression of love for the Lord. And just as we learn the words and
notes to songs, we are learning movements to dances in an effort to
better express ourselves. Dancing, like so many things, has been
perverted by the secular world. It has been used to promote people and
not God; it has been used to lure people into impure behavior. So let’s
take dancing back to what it was designed to be...an artistic way of
expressing our praise to God for all that He is and does.
It’s too late to join us for this first dance, Here I am to Worship, but
if you’d like to join us for the next dance, we’d love to have you.
