Extending Christ's Love

What does the Bible say about the “Church”?

• Believers were continually devoting themselves to the apostles teaching, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. (Acts 2:42)
• The congregation of those who believed were of one heart and soul… (Acts 4:32)
• The apostles summoned the congregation to select seven men (deacons) to serve within the church… (Acts 6:2,3)
• The apostles appointed elders in every church to watch over the spiritual health of the congregation… (Acts 14:23)
• The believers were first called Christians in Antioch. (Acts 11:26)

First Christian Church of Sesser is a family of believers who strive to achieve the same basic elements as the 1st Century Church, relying ONLY on the Bible and the Holy Spirit to guide us collectively and individually. As each member is a part of our Christian family, they receive the love and warm friendship that is missing in so many families today. With God’s help, it is our desire to grow more Christ-like each day.

WHY WE EXIST

Our Aim is:
1. The restoration of the Church found in the New Testament, and consequent unity
of all the followers of Christ into one body. (John 17:21)
2. To exalt Christ and His Word above all human creeds.
3. To build a church of Christ without denominational name, man-written creed or
other barrier to Christian unity.
4. To lead sinners to Christ according to New Testament teaching.

We shall appeal to the Bible on the essentials of faith. We shall practice love in our opinions. “Where the Bible speaks, we speak; where the Bible is silent, we are silent.”

The government of the Church is essentially congregational. The elders are the main leaders. The congregation is consulted when major decisions are made. The elders are directed by the Head of the Church, Jesus Christ.
